New development in hit-and-run incident

On September 28, Ellwood City Police were searching for a hit-and-run suspect after a 14-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle and spent several hours in the emergency room for injuries to his face, hip, and chest.

But, after much investigation, police are now charging the 14-year-old victim and the driver who also turns out to be 14.  The juveniles will be charged with filing false reports, and the driver with traffic violations.

Last month, police were searching for a man in his late 20s who was the suspected hit-and-run driver.  According to the story, the boy was walking home from school and was stuck by a tan or beige Pontiac Grand Am on Third St. in Ellwood City.

The boy was able to walk to a friend’s house and his mother drove him to Ellwood City Hospital where he was treated with several injuries.

Now, Ellwood City Police are saying that the victim and his friend were on a “joyride” in a parent’s vehicle.  The victim allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and was struck by it as it was still moving.

Police say the juveniles made up the hit-and-run incident because they were both underage driving.
