Crawford to hit 1,000, EC takes on Rival RHS

Tonight as Ellwood City takes on Riverside at 7 p.m., a milestone will be in the making – with just five yards from the coveted 1,000 yard mark, Kyle Crawford looks to add himself to the list of great Wolverine rushers.

Crawford led the Wolverines last week with 89 yards on 15 carries, but came up a few short of the landmark number; yet, may get it with just one carry.

Ellwood City’s playoff seed, although not secure, will most likely be the number three spot.  If Beaver (7-1) defeats Beaver Falls (6-2), Ellwood City’s 3rd seed will be set.  And although a win at Riverside isn’t exactly necessary to secure a spot, Ellwood hopes to head into the playoffs with a victory and a 3-game winning streak.

Right now, the Wolverines are flying high, coming off an exciting victory over the Beaver Falls Tigers, 31-28.

“When people talk about the MAC conference, they talk about Aliquippa, Beaver, Beaver Falls, and no one else, but tonight we got over the hump and into the conversation,” said Ellwood City head coach Don Philips last week.

And, Ellwood City is definitely in the conversation.  Last season, the Wolverines were heading in their final game, similar to tonight with Riverside, needing a victory to secure a playoff spot.  This year is a different story – Ellwood is now hoping to finish the season with an impressive 7-2 record.
