Ellwood City Council news and notes

The Ellwood City Police Department will purchase a new police cruiser after another one was damaged during the flooding several months ago.

Council approved the purchase of a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria from Day Ford, Inc. through the Central Westmoreland COG Cooperative Purchasing Program at a cost of $22,665.  The amount will be paid from the General Capital Reserve Fund.

According to Council, the borough was able to salvage approximately $12,137 through insurance from the vehicle.

Community Development
Housing rehab at the address of 210 Hazel Avenue in the amount of $450 will be done by GH Hurl Construction out of Sharpsville, and another home at the address of 229 Laurel Avenue by the same contractor.

Council approved the addition of curb ramps along Beaver Avenue between Fifth and Sixth Streets that were bid by Ellwood City Revitalization as part of the Community Plaza/Farmer’s Market

  1. I do not think this should have been covered by anyone other than the police officer that drove the police cruiser straight into the flooded street. I witnessed the cop pass a line of traffic with his lights flashing and basically submerged the car to a ridiculously stupid depth. All the other cars were wise enough to stop before the water line.
