Ellport wastewater plant damaged by vandals

Ellwood City Police said vandals caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to the Ellport wastewater treatment plant early Sunday morning. According to authorities, someone, most likely several individuals, broke through the entrance to the sewer plant along the extension of 3rd Street near “the hole,” a park on the east side of Ellport. Students learn skills for working in medical field

Jameson Hospital and The Moraine Trails Council have joined forces to create a Medical Careers Exploration Program for teenagers. The program is open to students in grades 9-12 attending school in Lawrence County, and will meet once a month during the school year. The next meeting is scheduled for February 9 at 7:00 p.m. and is currently open for enrollment. Aqua Club competes at Slippery Rock

District lines ruled invalid by state Supreme Court

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court came to a conclusion on Wednesday that a map which redraws new state House and Senate districts is not valid. With a vote of 4-3, the court issued a ruling to send the plan back to the Legislative Reapportionment Commission.  This means that a new plan could take years to finalize. Panthers remain atop the standings with section win

After losing two of three games just a week ago, the Riverside girls basketball team got back on track quickly as they were victors of their last two section match-ups, including an impressive win Thursday night against New Brighton, 62-34. Students participate at Math 24 competition

On Thursday, Jan. 11, approximately 20 Riverside elementary and middle school students participated in the Beaver County MATH 24 competition at Lincoln Park in Midland, Pa. MATH 24 is a logics game that requires students to use four given numbers and four basic mathematical operations to arrive at a solution of 24.  Students participated in two preliminary rounds before the top 16 students were decided. Riverside defeated by high-scoring Pittsburgh team

Vincentian Academy may be a WPIAL single A team, but they surely don’t play like one against higher opponents.  In fact, Vincentian has played three AA teams in Ellwood City, Laurel, and most recently Riverside, beating them all with offensive talent. Christian school hosting prospective students

An open house for prospective students and their families will be held at Portersville Christian School on Thursday, February 2.  Families may make arrangements to attend the open house at either 1:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. The school is currently receiving early applications and registrations prior to the release of tuition information in March.  In addition to Kindergarten, there are openings on most grade levels for the fall semester of 2012.
