Man’s body found in creek identified
Police in Lawrence County along with the County Coroner have identified the man found in the Neshannock Creek in New Castle on Saturday as 57-year-old Jeffery Mackey. The Lawrence County Coroner also said that foul play was not a factor in the death of Mackey, who may have jumped into the creek the night before, according to police, yet nothing has been confirmed. Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court and his Advisory Committee met in Council Chambers on Thursday, and a number of issues were discussed from prize scams to police patrol. 1,000 point scorer honored at homecoming
Portersville Christian School celebrated its first Homecoming in memory at a recent home basketball game during which alumni were honored, and the school’s first Homecoming King and Queen were crowned. Police search for man in attempted homicide
Police are looking for a man they say fired five shots at another man, hitting him once in the hand. Shenango Township Police are seeking the whereabouts of Jermaine C. Hunter, 22, who is allegedly responsible for the shooting at the residence of Michael Thomas, 22, of Ellwood Rd., New Castle. Special college class to be offered in Ellwood
Beginning next month, Lincoln High School in Ellwood City will be hosting ‘Counseling and Teaching Youth at Risk,’ a three-credit graduate class for teachers and counselors. POLICE: Theft, numerous vandalized vehicles
An Ellwood City woman was arrested for stealing over $3,000 during a one month period from the store she was employed at, according to Franklin Township police. Krista Boring, 24, of Butler Ave., Ellwood City, was charged with theft last week after police said she entered false return transactions into the cash register at Radio Shack between October and November in 2011. Ellwood man charged with rape
An Ellwood City man was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly raped a 4-year-old girl while her mother was at work. Steve Squires, 50, of 318 Hillside Ave., Ellwood City, is charged with rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, sexual assault, indecent assault, statutory sexual assault, and aggravated indecent assault with a child under the age of 13.
