Jordan Brown proceedings remain closed to public

The Pennsylvania Superior Court told three newspapers this morning, including the New Castle News, that media coverage from inside the courtroom of the Jordan Brown case would be denied.

The Court rejected an appeal Wednesday morning by the New Castle News, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and the Tribune-Review to keep the homicide proceedings open to the public.

They claimed the public has a constitutional right to be there, even in cases involving juveniles.

Yet, three-judge Superior Court panel decided to uphold the September decision of a Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge to keep the hearing closed. No media coverage will be allowed inside the courtroom.

Brown, who was 11-years-old when he was accused of killing Kenzie Marie Houk, 26, by shooting her back in 2009 as she was sleeping in New Beaver.  Houk was in her final month of pregnancy when she was killed.
