Riverside pitcher Rob Hardy had a strong performance on the mound Wednesday afternoon as the Panthers baseball team defeated Carlynton, 13-3. Hardy had six strikeouts in five innings and only gave up two runs.
Carlynton had an early lead, scoring two runs in the second inning. But, Riverside answered with a run in the second, four more runs in the third, and another two in the fourth inning.
The Panthers big inning came in the sixth when they put up six runs.
For Riverside, Corey Belonzi had four hits and was 4-4, and Tyler Whitlatch and Ian Sutherland each had a double in the victory.
The Panthers are now 2-2 overall, with losses coming to Ambridge 5-2 and Blackhawk 6-0.
Lady Panthers
Junior Kirsten Wilson took control of the game on both offense and defense as the Lady Panthers played shutout ball, defeating Laurel 5-0 on Wednesday.
Wilson recorded 19 strikeouts in seven innings and didn’t allow a walk. The junior pitcher also had two 2-run homeruns in the victory.
The Lady Panthers are perfect so far this season at 3-0.
