The Dollar General store that is currently located within Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City will soon be moving into a new building, and it’s just feet from its present spot.
Emily Weiss, public relations manager for the Dollar General Corporation, confirmed that a new store will be constructed at the intersection of Route 288 and Pine Hill Way in Franklin Township. Although it’s too early for her to confirm an opening date, she did say that they hope to open by late summer.
Back on March 12, a developer involved with the Dollar General store construction attended the Franklin Township supervisor meeting in order to get their approval to develop the property. The supervisors voted in approval of the construction.
Yet, there was still a concern expressed with the location between Giant Eagle and the Jehovah’s Witness hall – vehicles entering and exiting along 288 could be dangerous, mainly because of traffic coming down the hill.
Allegedly, Giant Eagle would not permit an easement to allow a connection to their parking lot. However, PennDOT approved Dollar General’s construction of their own entrance/exit on Route 288.
Dollar General is attempting to make all their stores separate establishments and eliminate stores that are in line with other stores in a plaza setting.
