It’s graduation day for Lincoln High

It may seem like an early graduation for Lincoln High School, and that’s because it is.

The high school typically holds its commencement sometime in early June, but since this year’s winter was so mild, snow days were at a minimum and school could end at its normal time.

Lincoln High School is holding its graduation ceremony tonight at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. A total of 116 seniors will receive diplomas during the 2012 commencement.

There are five high honor graduates this year who are atop their class, and they are as follows (in alphabetical order):

Lisa Giancola is the daughter of Robert and Christine Giancola and plans to study mathematics at Penn State Behrend in Erie.

Lisa is a 4-year member of the varsity softball team, Club Hope, Caring Team, Ellwood City Culture Club; a 3-year member of the golf team and peer leadership; 2-year member of National Honors Society and student council. She was also the senior class treasurer.

Eric McCall is the son of Kathleen McCall and plans to study engineering at Penn State University Park in State College.

Eric is a 4-year member of the track and field team and of the LHS band; 3-year member of the cross country team, March of Dimes, Caring Team, and National Honors Society; he also attends Holy Redeemer Church and works at McElwain Motors.

Jessica Schombert is the daughter of Renee and Kevin Schombert and plans to study veterinary science at Allegheny College.

Jessica is a 6-year member of the Enrichment Program, newspaper staff, and Drama Club; 5-year member of the French Club and Ski Club; 4-year member of the history club; 3-year member of the track and field team, tennis team, and National Honors Society; she has also done one year of cross country.

Stephanie Smith is the daughter of Mark and Connie Smith and plans to study chemical engineering at La Roche College.

Stephanie is a 6-year member of the concert band; 4-year member of the marching band and German Club; 3-year member of the international club and the jazz band; 2-year member of the Lincoln Musical Orchestra and National Honors Society.

Colby Staples is the daughter of Theodore and Laurie Staples and plans to study respiratory therapy at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Colby is a 4-year member of Club Hope and power puff football; 3-year member of peer leadership; 2-year member of National Honors Society and the varsity softball team; 1-year as sophomore class treasurer and junior class vice president; she also participates in the youth softball league and her church youth group.

There are also nine seniors that are graduating with honors, and they are as follows (in alphabetical order):
