Last weekend may have been the opening day of the Ellwood City Swimming Pool; however, this weekend may be one of the better weekends to experience the local public swimming pool.
The Beaver County YMCA, with help from the Ellwood City borough, has once again prepared a summer long list of ‘things to do’ at the Veterans Memorial Pool in Ewing Park. Below are a number of activities the pool has to offer this year:
Family Swim Nights
Family night swims are held each month at the Ellwood City pool. The employees will provide a variety of inflatable toys and floats for your entertainment from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by an open swim from 8 to 9 p.m.
Children under 10-years-old, and those that cannot pass a swim test, must be accompanied by an adult in the water at all times.
Each family swim night takes place on Fridays, specifically June 15, July 20, and August 17. The event is free, but is only limited to 150 people.
SPLASH: Begin to Swim Week
From Monday, June 18 to Thursday, June 21, the Ellwood City pool will be offering a 4-day, free swim instruction and water safety orientation for children ages 3 and up who have never received any previous swim instruction.
Registration for SPLASH began on Monday, June 4. Swim instruction for ages 3 to 5 will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m., and ages 6 and up from 11:30 to noon. Class size is limited and preregistration is required.
The Ellwood City pool gives you a chance to throw a cannonball of a party. For two hours, from 7 to 9 p.m., pool parties can be reserved for up to 25 guests.
As part of the basic pool party, you get to swim for two hours, paper products included (plates, napkins, cups, table clothes, etc.), food for the guests (six 1-topping pizzas, six bottles of soda, and three bags of chips), and a shirt for the birthday child.
Prices are $225 with pool pass or YMCA membership, or $275 without pass/membership. The price breakdown is approximately $9 or $11 per child if brining 25 guests.
If you have a date in mind for a pool party, contact the Ellwood City pool for YMCA to check availability of the date. Dates are first come, first serve.
Parent/child Swimming Lessons
New to the Ellwood City pool is the parent/child swimming lesson. There is a 30-minute class for children ages 6 to 36 months and their parents, with a primary objective to get both the parent and child comfortable in the water by focusing on fun, playing games, bonding, and interacting with others.
This parent/child lesson is a 4-week long evening program from June 11 to August 2 on every Monday and Thursday from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Open registration begins June 11.
The fee is free for ages 6 to 12 months with pool pass/YMCA membership, $30 for ages 12 to 36 months with pass/membership, and $55 without pass/membership for ages 6 to 36 months.
