First beautification award given for fine work

Tuesday officially marked the third year of the effort by Mayor Anthony Court to help improve the aesthetics of Ellwood City as he presented the first of five Beautification Awards for 2012.

In photo from left to right: Mayor Anthony Court, Ronalyn Parsons, Judy Berendt, Linda Dickson, Shayne Kennedy and Patricia Caccia. Missing from the photo are Sue Colavecchia, Floyd Shirley, and Dom Viccari.

Mayor Court and the rest of the Beautification Committee presented one of the beautification awards last week to several local residents who, each year, take care of and beautify the area across from the Veterans Memorial Swimming Pool in Ewing Park.

The winner of each beautification award is given a sign to be placed at the winning site, and gift certificates, donated by local businesses, are given as an additional award. In all, there are five total Beautification Awards to be presented, two each in June and July, and one in August.

Many Ellwood City residents are selected as award recipients, but only a few are chosen, said Mayor Court.  He said it’s a hard decision for himself and the committee when there are so many residents who truly take pride in their work.

  1. I wanna know! on said:

The title reads, “First beautification award given for fine work” and the article states “…as he presented the first of five Beautification Awards for 2012.”

This leaves two unanswered questions: given to whom and where?

The article also states, “…and gift certificates, donated by local businesses.” Which local businesses?

This must be Ellwood’s best kept secret.

  2. Read the article a little better…let me answer your question by quoting the article:

    given to whom and where?

    whom:
“Ronalyn Parsons, Judy Berendt, Linda Dickson, Shayne Kennedy and Patricia Caccia. Sue Colavecchia, Floyd Shirley, and Dom Viccari.”

    where:
“…the area across from the Veterans Memorial Swimming Pool in Ewing Park.”
