Annual bazaar begins tonight
The 46th year of the Holy Redeemer Parish Bazaar will begin today and continue through Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Holy Redeemer School grounds, located along Third Street and Lawrence Avenue. Activities run everyday from 6 to 10 p.m. Featured nightly is a menu of Italian food, rides, games, and opportunities to win a variety of prizes. POLICE: Stolen bikes, warrant arrest, and DUI
Last week, Ellwood City Police had three separate calls for stolen bikes. On Tuesday, police received calls at approximately noon and 3 p.m. after two separate residents noticed their kid’s bicycles were taken from the front porch. The first reported stolen bike was a 20-inch, red, Mongoose BMX bike valued at approximately $135. It was taken from a home on 801 Second Street. The resident said the bike was recently purchased. Sitler & Lemmon fight to stave off elimination
Just four outs from elimination, Sitler & Lemmon rallied to win 9-6 last Monday evening. Down 1-0 in the best of three series, Sitler faced a 5-2 deficit entering the top of the 4th inning. Teacher’s legacy lives on through Butterfly Foundation
Although her life was cut short at 27, Christina Whelan made a difference in so many lives. A beloved daughter, sister, niece, friend, and teacher, Whelan died on Aug. 30, 2011, in a tragic car accident on North Carolina’s I-85. Kitchen Cabinet group looks for volunteers
The “Kitchen Cabinet,” a group that consists of concerned borough residents, is seeking volunteers for Friday and Saturday to help install playground equipment at Circle Playground in Ellwood City. Earla Marshall, the groups spokesperson, said they were to begin work on Thursday by digging the holes for the piece of equipment, followed by more work on Friday and Saturday. Students explore careers in vet care
Dr. Cindy Maro and the staff of the Ellwood Animal Hospital hosted a special veterinary learning session on Wednesday. Ten children, ages 10-18 years old, participated. Beginning this afternoon, strong storms will be scattered throughout the area, with many areas experiencing strong winds, heavy rain, and damaging lightning. According to The Weather Channel, starting at approximately 3 p.m. today, severe thunderstorms are expected to be most numerous from late afternoon into the late evening.
