Police out of Lawrence County are currently investigating a scam that that began on Tuesday, July 10. The scam involves a Fed EX package and fraudulent money orders inside.
Shenango Township Police said they are investigating a case in which an overnight Fed EX package is received by a resident. Inside are 2 to 4 US Postal Money Orders that appear to be genuine.
The intended victim , being made an offer to be a secret shopper, is asked to cash the money orders, keep a certain amount and forward the remaining funds, via Western Union, to the next secret shopper.
The package appears to come from a legitimate doctor in Florida, when in reality they are being sent from a Fed EX drop box in Los Angeles, Ca.
Residents are asked to be wary of these types of scams. If you or someone you know receives this scam, contact your local police department.
