Pie Festival will honor 50 years of contribution

Betty Baney DeLoia, who has been with the Lincoln High School Marching Blue Band for the last five decades, will be honored during Thursday’s annual Pie Festival.

DeLoia’s long tenure with the Ellwood City marching band began 50 years ago when she was a student at Lincoln High School. She started with the band as a majorette and was then head majorette.

Before she knew it, she was about to graduate.

But, the band director at the time, Mr. B. Weinstein, asked her to stay and work with the band after graduation.  Although most of her time was spent with her dance studio, she with the Blue Band ever since.

During the Pie Festival on Thursday at Helling Stadium, DeLoia will be honored for her 50 years as a member of the LHS Marching Blue Band.

Pie Festival gates open at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m.  Admission is $3.

Several attendees line up to select their pie of choice during the annual Pie Festival pep rally.

Also at the annual Pie Festival, all the Lincoln High School fall sports teams will be introduced and the LHS Blue Band will perform a pre-game and half-time show.

The LHS Marching Blue Band will perform several popular song tunes including “The Fight Song” (The Notre Dame Victory March), “The Star Spangled Banner,” The Lincoln High School Alma Mater, and “Trooper’s Battlehymn.” These will be featured during the pre-game show.
