Wayne Consolidated School Reunion
The Committee for the Wayne Consolidated School Reunion will now hold monthly meetings to prepare for the reunion. This month’s meeting will be held on Thursday, June 20th at the Ellwood City McDonald’s at 6:30 p.m. The reunion is scheduled for Saturday, September 21st at the Ellwood/Wampum Gun & Rod Club. Ellwood City Council Meeting Brief
Mayor, Anthony J. Court, and Police Chief, Mark Romutis, awarded commendations to Patrolmen Jon Disher, Zadock Dismuke, Michael McBride, and Police K-9 Jozek for their valiant efforts in the drug bust. Council President, Anthony “Lefty” DeCarbo awarded a commendation to Elijah Vardzel, Boy Scout, for his many hours of community service for his Eagle Scout project, refurbishing Ewing Park and the Nature Trail. Council dismisses Walnut Ridge Proposal
Ellwood City Council strikes again. At last night’s meeting, Council denied an Ellwood citizen the ability to do something good towards the revitalization of the town, turning a motion over to the Zoning Board. Tony Joseph, T-Time owner and Walnut Ridge resident, proposed an idea to turn the old Walnut Ridge Elementary School into sports fields, an eatery, and business center. Council to vote on Walnut Ridge Revitalization
The Ellwood City Area School District permanently closed the doors of Walnut Ridge Elementary School in June of 2011. Ellwood was forced to compensate for the major decrease in educational state funding. Walnut Ridge was the smallest of Ellwood’s five school buildings. The Board passed the General Fund Budget for the 2013-2014 fiscal year in the amount of $26,512,279. The Board passed the Lawrence Country Career and Technical Center’s Budget for the 2013-2014 school year amounting to $6,842,838.
