The Committee for the Wayne Consolidated School Reunion will now hold monthly meetings to prepare for the reunion. This month’s meeting will be held on Thursday, June 20th at the Ellwood City McDonald’s at 6:30 p.m. The reunion is scheduled for Saturday, September 21st at the Ellwood/Wampum Gun & Rod Club. The Ellwood City Area School District permanently closed the doors of Walnut Ridge Elementary School in June of 2011. Ellwood was forced to compensate for the major decrease in educational state funding. Walnut Ridge was the smallest of Ellwood’s five school buildings. With the least amount of students, closing Walnut Ridge seemed like the obvious choice. Lincoln High School remained untouched, still housing seventh through twelfth grades.
