Local counties receive $81,657 in West Nile Virus grants

Beaver and Lawrence counties will receive state grants totaling more than $81,657 to combat the spread of the West Nile Virus (WNV), according to Senator Elder Vogel. In an effort to combat the spread of the virus, the state Department of Environmental Protection awarded the following West Nile Virus Control Program grants: $37,086 to Beaver County and $44,571 to Lawrence County. Lincoln High School student receives national honor

The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) announced last month that Lincoln High School senior Victoria Cunningham from Ellwood City, Pennsylvania has been selected to become a member of the esteemed organization. POLICE: Letter/check scam issued to area resident

A new foreign mailing with a claim notification and check was brought to Ellwood City Police Department’s attention.  The result — same old scam. The scam is issued by ‘Trans Financial Incorporated’ whom sends you a fake check to cover some expense/fee and they request you send the processing fee/expense back to them via Western Union Money Transfer. Junior High softball defeats Avonworth, improves to 4-0

The Lady Wolverines Junior High softball team beat Avonworth 10-2 in six innings on the Ellwood City diamond Thursday evening to remain undefeated on the season.
