PHOTOS: Merchant Beautification Awards

Large Number of Local Businesses Vandalized

Businesses in downtown Ellwood City have the been the recent target of a series of vandalism acts involving rocks from the railroad tracks. The Ellwood City Police Department is currently searching for those responsible for the damages. The incidents began happening on November 21 when Joe Morabito reported that the windows at his building on the 200 block of 5th Street were broken. Ellwood Elementary Students Compete at SRU

Eleven Ellwood City elementary students competed in the Linguishtik competition at Slippery Rock University on December 10. Linguishtik challenges players to improve their grammar, vocabulary, spelling and writing skills. Players learn to compose better sentences with proper grammar application. They also use richer vocabulary as they compete against others and are rewarded. All grade levels play with the same set of procedural rules. Ellwood Girls Basketball Falls to Beaver

The Ellwood City Girls Basketball team lost to Beaver last night with a final score of 66-34. Junior Karington Ketterer lead the way both offensively and defensively for the Lady Wolverines. Ketterer totaled 12 points and 6 rebounds. Senior Bailey McKinney followed by adding 7 points and 4 rebounds. Another key Ellwood player was Emily Brown, chipping in 6 points and 3 rebounds. The Ellwood City Wrestling team dominated Ambridge High School yesterday. The team won seven matches with one forfeit to beat the Bridgers, 49-21. Lady Wolverines fall behind early, lose at Ambridge

Ellwood City fell behind on the road early and could not recover against Ambridge, falling to the Bridgers 71-25 on Thursday.
